In Tuesday’s special election, the North Kitsap school support levy is passing by a wide margin, according to initial results from the Kitsap County Auditor’s Office.

With a total of 12,682 votes counted, about 71.5 percent of voters approved the levy renewal.

“I can’t thank the community enough for their support and involvement,” said Clint Boxman, co-chairman of the North Kitsap Citizens for Quality Schools committee.

Boxman’s committee spent the last several weeks handing out flyers and making speeches in support of the levy at various businesses and events throughout North Kitsap.

The levy is a renewal of a 2006 levy that expires after this year. The North Kitsap School District currently uses levy dollars to fund about 20 percent of its budget.
