Bernyce Pearson Manville

Bernyce Pearson Manville, formerly of Poulsbo, died Dec. 31. She was 102.
She was born Aug. 28, 1907, to Charles and Blanche Pearson in Baraboo, Wisc.
In 1923 she moved from Wisconsin to Ontario, Calif. She finished high school and graduated from Chaffey College in Alta Loma, Calif., in 1928.
She married Walter Manville in November 1931. They moved to Seattle in 1933 where Walter’s Uncle David Cruikshank was in the dime store business and had located a store for them. After 16 years in the Roosevelt District they moved to Poulsbo where they owned and operated David’s 5 & 10 in the Poulsbo Waterfront village from 1949-77. Walter died in 1954 and Manville continued to run the store until she retired at age 70.
She returned to the Seattle area in the 1980s and moved to Port Ludlow in 2003.
Travel adventures included tours of Mexico, Europe, and trips to Hawaii and Alaska to visit her daughters and grandson. She was a member of the Mayflower Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Descendents of the Colonial Clergy.
Manville is survived by two daughters: Sue Manville of Port Ludlow and Barbara Cleveland of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two grandsons: Douglas Kvinnesland of Port Ludlow, Hascal (Roxanne) Humes, M.D., of Los Angeles; and three great-grand children: Hascal Humes II, Theo Humes and Maya Humes.
A private service will be Jan. 28. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 834 Sheridan Ave., Port Townsend, WA 98368.
