The state Department of Transportation will close Hood Canal Bridge intermittently at night over the next month.

The closures will allow DOT to perform extensive testing on the west span of the bridge, according to a department news release.

The bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic sporadically on weekday nights between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Closures begin Monday and will last up to 90 minutes.

Hood Canal Bridge opened to vehicle traffic in June after DOT rebuilt its eastern span. According to the release, contractor Kiewet General has completed $14 million in work since the bridge reopened in June and will complete another $6 million in work over the fall.

More than 100 contract employees are still working on the bridge.
