Beach in Bremerton, not Poulsbo, tests high for bacteria

POULSBO — A statement from the state departments of Ecology and Health BEACH program incorrectly identified a beach in Poulsbo as having tested for high concentrations of pollution.

The beach that tested high was the Lions Park in Bremerton, not Poulsbo, said Jim Zimny, senior health specialist with the Kitsap County Health District.

Testing on Liberty Bay will begin next week as part of a grant from the state Department of Ecology to identify and reduce the sources of fecal coliform pollution.

Swimming conditions are not monitored at Liberty Bay, and the confusion resulted from two cities having parks by the same name, Zimny said.
