Three USS John C. Stennis sailors were injured Wednesday evening when one vehicle T-boned the other on northbound State Highway 3 near Chico Way, closing the roadway for more than four hours.

A 19-year-old man and 21-year-old man, both stationed aboard the Stennis, were driving Honda Civics on northbound State Highway 3 shortly before 9 p.m. when the 21-year-old swerved to pass another vehicle, lost control and T-boned the 19-year-old man’s car, according to Washington State Patrol.

The 19-year-old was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton with a broken left leg and the female passenger, also from the Stennis, sustained back and leg pain. She was later released from Harrison.

The 21-year-old man was transported to Harrison with a broken wrist. The 20-year-old male passenger, also a Stennis sailor, was uninjured.

The two men appeared to be racing up State Highway 3, which caused the collision, according to WSP. The 21-year-old man was charged with vehicular assault.

Both vehicles were totaled and the road was closed for more than four hours.
