Frances Barnes died on Aug. 26. She was 98.

Barnes was born on June 26, 1910, in Stanwood to Charles and Marie McKean.

Her mother was a housewife and her father was a barber. She grew up in Stanwood with one sister, Mabel Raab.

After completing high school, she received a librarian sciences degree from University of Washington.

She married William Barnes, who worked for Puget Power. Frances Lutheran faith was very important to her. She enjoyed music.
