MIDSUMMER CELEBRATION: The Poulsbo Sons of Norway and Historic Downtown Poulsbo Association are planning a Midsummer celebration at 4 p.m. today at the Kvelstad Pavilion at Waterfront Park. BARK PARK FOR A DAY: Country Pet Shoppe will once again host a dog play day today, from noon to 3 p.m. A trainer from Kitsap Animal Rescue & Education will be on hand to assist dog introductions and answer questions. Call (360) 297-4165. A $5 fee benefits local rescues.
MONSTERS IN GARDEN BEDS: Learn about recent ornamental escapees that are threatening our watersheds from Dana Coggon, Kitsap County Noxious Weed Control Program Coordinator, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today. at the Stillwaters Environmental Center in Kingston. OPTIMIST CLUB: The North Kitsap Optimist Club is holding a “Treasure Chest of Pampering” raffle at 4 p.m. today in conjunction with their second annual rummage sale. Proceeds will help send more than 4,000 books to a village school in Kenya. Purchase tickets in advance at Cedarwilde, Synergy Healing or the Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce. NK CAR AND MOTORCYCLE SHOW: The Kingston Lumber Relay for Life team will hold a car and motorcycle show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 22 in the Kingston Lumber District Yard. KIDS GRIEF RETREAT: A special day led by Hospice of Kitsap County counselors and volunteers has been designed to help kids ages 4-12 cope with the death of a loved one from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 24 at Silverwood School in Poulsbo. Kids will participate in arts and crafts, journal writing, and sharing (dress for play). Lunch is included. A simultaneous support group will be held for parents and guardians.
CANDIDATE FORUM: A candidate forum for the 23rd and 35th Congressional District and the North Kitsap County Commissioner District 1 will be held on June 24 in the Evergreen Room of the Silverdale Community Center at 9729 Silverdale Way just north of Walgreens. Kitsap Alliance of Property Owners is the sponsor of the forums. Coffee and cookies will follow.
BOTANICAL ILLUSTRATION: Portraying the Plant classes are offered through Poulsbo Parks & Recreation June 24 to Aug. 5 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center. Beginners and more experienced artists welcome; students will learn observation & measurement skills, watercolor washes, and dry brush technique to render realistic leaves, flowers, and other botanical subjects. Supplies may be purchased through the instructor, Kathleen McKeehen, freelance illustrator and botanical artist. Cost is $118 for the seven-week course. Info: (360) 779-9898.
SUSTAINABLE BUILDING COURSE: The Sustainable Building Advisor Certificate Course will be held at Olympic College in Poulsbo. Upcoming information sessions will be held at the campus from 4:30-6 p.m. June 24 and 9:30-11 a.m. July 19. The course is offered in nine two-day sessions over the course of nine months and is specifically geared toward design and construction professionals, tenant and developer representatives, project managers, resource conservation specialists and other building professionals. ORCA TRIP: Poulsbo Parks & Recreation is offering an exciting day trip to San Juan Island on June 25. Participants will take a chartered coach to Port Townsend where they will board the Glacier Spirit. The boat trip includes an hour-long narrated tour and viewing of the Orcas. Once on San Juan, you can enjoy 2.5 hours of strolling Friday Harbor and lunch at a restaurant of your choice. The boat returns to Port Townsend at 5 p.m. and the bus to Poulsbo at 6:30 p.m. The $89 fee includes all transportation costs while lunch and shopping are on your own. CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING: International Championship Wrestling returns to the Suquamish Tribal Center June 28 at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and are $10. The tribal center is located at 15838 Sandy Hook Road. The night’s card will feature nine big matches, and will also be a celebration as International Champion Streetfighter Tim Flowers rings in his 30th year in Pro Wrestling.
LOW-TIDE BEACH WALK: Join a marine ecologist from Stillwaters Environmental Center to discover the area’s rich nearshore environment during the annual low-tide beach walk from 12:30-1:30 p.m. July 5. Gathering starts at the Kingston Farmers Market. Event is fun for all ages, children must be accompanied by an adult. Wear shoes or boots that can go over rocks and get muddy. Info: (360) 297-2876.
CLASS REUNION: The North Kitsap High School classes of 1972, 1973 and 1974 will have a combined 35th class reunion at 7 p.m. on July 18 at the Suquamish Clearwater Hotel waterfront. CLASS REUNION: The North Kitsap High School classes of 1992 and 1993 will be hosting a joint 15-year reunion July 19. The event will begin with a family picnic (potluck style) at Buck Lake in the afternoon and then an adults-only gathering at the Clearwater Casino in Suquamish will be held that evening.
