Former teacher pens autobiography

POULSBO — Twenty-three year Poulsbo resident Charlie “Doc” Rose has published his memoirs as a Navy hospital Corpsman during the Vietnam War. “Corpsman Up!” tells Rose’s tale of life in the Marines, his tour of duty in Vietnam and the transitional period he underwent after returning home.

Rose is seeking to bring inspiration, hope and healing through the work.

Rose served 20 years in the Naval Reserves and seven years on active duty. He uses his knowledge and experiences to bring a startling “you-are-there” authenticity while exploring both the unique training Corpsman are put through and the seldom described experience of a Navy man carrying out Marine Corps assignments. Rose gives readers an insider’s look at combat duty, post traumatic stress disorder and how to deal with severe injury.

Rose taught at Poulsbo Junior High for 20 years. He was selected Teacher of the Year in 1994, has three children and is also a third-degree black belt in Aikido. He now resides in Tucson, Ariz. with his wife, Cotah.
