Bainbridge deputy chief
involved in car accident
SUQUAMISH — Bainbridge Island Police Deputy Chief James Mark Duncan, 50, was involved in a three-car accident, along with two other drivers, at about 9:10 a.m. Nov. 29 on State Route 305 near the intersection of Totten Road, according to the Washington State Patrol. No one was seriously hurt.
A 21-year-old Bremerton driver in a 1987 Honda Civic crossed the center line on that section of road and struck a 1989 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by a 51-year-old Bainbridge Island resident. Duncan, in a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, was hit by the pickup and collided with the guardrail, troopers said. The Civic’s driver sustained a minor foot injury, and was treated and released at the scene. No one else involved was injured, and all three drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident, troopers said.
Liberty Shores worker
finds herself in messy situation
POULSBO — A 64-year-old Liberty Shores Assisted Living employee reportedly fell approximately 10 feet into a sewage pump vault at about 11:10 p.m. Nov. 28 at the facility, according to Poulsbo Fire Department officials.
The woman had stepped outside for a break, and had not noticed an open manhole nearby, which she stepped into accidently, officials said. She was taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton for serious injuries after being extracted from the vault at about 11:50 p.m. Friday morning she was in Harborview Medical Center’s intensive care in the trauma unit and listed in serious condition.
PFD firefighters, as well as Navy Region Northwest Fire and Emergency from Bangor responded to the call. Crews were able to get the woman out with specialized equipment from Bangor used for removing injured patients from submarines, officials said. A technician for Northwest Cascade working on the site told firefighters he had been in the vault for about five minutes before he heard the woman fall.
