Thrift Shop extends hours

This month, ShareNet would like to highlight some of the direct food donations made by individuals and organizations within our community.

ShareNet kicks off the spring season with a very successful food drive launched by Kayla Kile and her coworker Stephanie Kirk of the Olympic Peaks Professional Building in Poulsbo. Kayla also organized a food drive for local food banks last fall, and plans to continue the drives twice annually. Stephanie produced flyers and distributed them to all the businesses in the building, including Todd Tidball of Edward D. Jones & Co., Brenda Prowse Properties, the North Kitsap Herald, Law Office of Richard Tizzano, J.C. Madison, Inc., Kitsap Trident Homes, Moore Creative Group and Law Office of James Tracy.

Their conscientious efforts netted 112 pounds of food collected over just one week, and $60 in cash donations. When asked how the idea came to her, Kayla said it first occurred around last Thanksgiving, when she knew some in our community would not have enough food, and then this spring she thought she’d like to do it again. Way to go, Kayla! The effort shows it only takes one person to get an idea, put it into action, and benefit many.

ShareNet would also like to acknowledge the Eglon Church, which donates $200 worth of food monthly. They split the funds between two shoppers, Wilma Redhed and Wendy Bryant, who do us the extra favor of purchasing what we need and transporting it to ShareNet. Wilma and her family also volunteer their time to mop the ShareNet facility regularly.

Last fall, Boy Scout Troop 1577 organized a food drive, which brought in 3,500 pounds of food. The Greater Kingston Kiwanis has helped with cash and food donations at Christmas.

There are always individuals with walk-in donations, and a donation barrel is stationed at Kingston Thriftway. We would be grateful to see the barrel more consistently filled. Food donations can be made anytime our facility is open. Our services would not be nearly as effective or meaningful without the sustained and creative support of our community. ShareNet salutes these food drive donors who have given their time and skill to make our community a better place, often without being asked!

We’d also like to announce that ShareNet’s Thrift Store at 26061 United Rd. NE (same building as Swift Plumbing and Heating) has new seasonal hours. We are glad to be adding later hours for those unable to shop earlier in the day. We will be open Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thrift Store shoppers: please note these new hours and our daily special sales. On the fourth Saturday of each month, there is a $.99 cent sale on selected items. Though our Thrift Store depends on and appreciates the community’s gracious donations as much as our Food Bank, the Thrift Store must limit donations of certain items at certain times due to very limited storage space. Please call first to make sure donations can be accepted, (360) 297-2266, and thank you for thinking of ShareNet.
