Woodland resonance

The cello, deeply resonant and lush, is not usually an instrument that one thinks of in large groups, but cello instructor Priscilla Jones has done just that, banding together a group of nine cello students to form “Cello Mania.â€
The group 4 p.m. Sept. 10 at IslandWood, as part of the outdoor education center’s Children’s Summer Concert Series.
The concert promises to be more than just classical music. The group’s repertoire also includes folk and “cello rock.â€
For the second half of the program flutist Janet See and oboist Karina Hoogstede perform “Vibrations,†in which they examine the ways different materials vibrate.
The concert will be held in the meadow at IslandWood, but in the event of rain it will be moved into the dining hall. It is suitable for all ages, and concertgoers are encouraged to bring a blanket and picnic dinner to enjoy the last outdoor concert of the summer.
