Indianola home destroyed in Thursday blaze

INDIANOLA — A waterfront cabin sustained severe damage and most of its occupant’s possessions were destroyed in a fire Thursday morning.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue and Poulsbo Fire Department units responded to the scene at 11:07 a.m. following the homeowner’s 911 call.

The first engine arrived on scene within eight minutes of the call, and reported flames already coming through the roof of the two-story structure.

Despite the fire’s size, crews were able to protect another home situated just 10 feet to the west of the engulfed building; the neighboring house suffered no damage.

After crews extinguished the blaze, the homeowner told officials that he’d first attempted to fight the fire after discovering it.

However, when he realized that his efforts weren’t working, he called 911 and evacuated the building.

The man and his dog escaped the home unharmed and no firefighters were injured battling the fire.

The cause of the fire is thought to have been an electrical problem, which was aided in its rapid spread by the older home’s highly combustible construction.

NKF&R will hold a public meeting about the incident at 7 p.m. Monday at its headquarters at 26642 Miller Bay Road near Kingston.
