Community center more than just a dream now

Progress toward development of a new community center as part of the long-awaited Kingston Village Green project was slowed by the departure of Mark Mauren from directorship of the Kitsap County Facilities, Parks and Recreation Department − but not halted! The Kingston Community Center Foundation, which has as its purpose bringing about a new community center, will be working hand in hand with representatives of other community groups, including Kingston Friends of the Library and the North Kitsap Boys and Girls Club among others, to identify sources of funding for the project.

Work with county representatives will be on hold until there’s a replacement for Mauren, but the Community Center Foundation’s Board plans to take these steps:

• Learn about possible grant sources and mechanisms from local people who’ve had experience acquiring grant money.

• Discover other possible funding sources.

• Link up with other entities planning for Kingston’s future.

• Revisit previous community center design sketches and within the next few months, commission some alternative community center design sketches.

If you’ve had experience with any of these elements, the foundation could use your help.

The Community Center Foundation Board meets at 10 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month, usually at the Kingston Community Center.
