There’s been a lot of discussion lately about the changing face of Bainbridge Island, and the pressure that newcomers bring, as well as the diversity. IslandWood is hosting a series of poetry workshops in which participants are invited to explore and express their own life stories and deep connections to community and place.
The “I Am From . . .†workshops are part of the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council’s “Sense of Place†community poetry series, and will be held 7-9 p.m. April 2 at Island Center Hall; 7-9 p.m. April 9 at IslandWood and 2-4 p.m. April 23 at Bainbridge Public Library.
The workshops are appropriate for aspiring poets ages 8 and up, no experience necessary.
According to IslandWood, the workshops are designed to “foster dialogue around the significance of being deeply connected to our ecological and cultural communities.â€
Participants will work through creative exercises and discussion then write and share their poems.
Workshops are free, advance registration required, contact IslandWood at (206) 855-4300 or online at www.islandwood.org.
