Spotlights and North Kitsap

Published 2:00 pm Saturday, November 13, 2004

North Kitsap has definitely got a first rate case of Hollywood-itus but with celebrities running amok and construction crews from “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” in the midst of conducting a miracle for the Dore family, it’s not surprising.

Their brand new house is set for completion next Wednesday and one cannot go anywhere in Kingston without hearing about the show, progress on the home, the Dores, the fun of it all or, yes, even how cute Ty Pennington is. Hollywood may be an exciting and bright place but it still doesn’t hold a candle to North Kitsap.

Residents from Kingston and beyond have been helping the Dores to the best of their ability for months. And while folks around here typically don’t have the resources to build a home for their neighbors in need at the drop of the hat, their donations, support and friendships shouldn’t be overlooked.

Local businesses and residents have long supported these good works, so often in fact that some who live here may think such practices are common place in every community. They aren’t and sometimes it’s important that we remind ourselves that this area is unique in what it offers.

When the Hollywood lights dim and the crews move on, North Kitsap will return to normal, which is to say it will continue being the greatest place on earth.
