Experience will count for Poulsbo

The City of Poulsbo has had a rough year. With construction, hearings, protests, studies and so on, one might even say council members have been through the ringer.
Indeed, 2003 was a mettle-tester and a year we felt might serve to disenchant some of our incumbents from seeking the office again. Fortunately, this isn’t the case.
Mike Regis and Jim Henry will be running unopposed.
Jackie Aitchison will face former Councilwoman Connie Lord and Jeff McGinty will face challenger Elizabeth Hutley.
Our nod goes to the incumbents.
Don’t call her “baby,” she’s Councilwoman Aitchison and we’re happy she’s seeking re-election.
The fact that she’s an environmental advocate in a time where big development seems to be intruding everywhere in North Kitsap would be enough for her to get our support. The fact that she’s got 12 years experience and often serves as the council’s conscience make her an invaluable resource to the community.
Aitchison isn’t afraid to stand on her own two feet, either and often takes not only staff to task but others on the council.
McGinty’s a tough nut to crack and we love the fact that he grills staff to get answers. His background in engineering and in depth knowledge of local affairs are what has earned him our endorsement. He’s a busy family man and yet still makes time for the entire city.
If McGinty wasn’t confident that he was the best person for the job he wouldn’t be seeking re-election. We agree that he is.
All in all, city politics are not for “single-issue sprinters,” they’re for folks who are in it for the marathon. Folks who have shown time and time again that Poulsbo comes first — folks like Aitchison, Henry, McGinty and Regis.
