There’s nothing quite like a day at the hometown ballpark with friends and family. Yes, it’s Kitsap BlueJackets baseball time again. It’s an ideal opportunity to catch some rays and enjoy America’s favorite pastime without having to shell out a bunch of money to cross the water.

With last year’s attendance record below the West Coast League average, the BlueJackets are hoping the community will get out and support its local summer collegiate team.

“We have good kids, they’re personable and they play hard,” said coach Matt Acker. “We want our fans to attach to our kids, so we’re looking to put on a good show and receive support.”

The BlueJackets have plenty of promotions following the regular-season home opener next Friday, June 12 including Senior Sunday on June 14 with all tickets half-off for those baseball fans 60 and older and even $2 Tuesdays featuring $2 general admission, $2 hot dogs and soda and more.

Money may be tight, but it’s not much of an expense to head to Lobe Fields at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds for a summer baseball game. Now is the time to show that community spirit often bragged about in Kitsap County. When the community comes out to support its team, it not only shows unity, but it boosts the morale of the players on the field; some of which are Kitsap natives.

Our team should be at the top of the league for attendance record, not below average. The BlueJackets may not be a shiny, new team in town, but let’s continue showing them that support they saw during the first years of the team’s existence.

With several key returners, Acker is confident his players will put on quite a show for baseball fans. Fill those stands and show them what a community like Kitsap is truly about.
