William Moore

William Lee Moore

August 22, 1949 – May 26, 2016

William Lee (Bill) Moore of Port Ludlow, Washington, formerly of Spokane, Washington, passed peacefully in his sleep at his home on May 26, 2016.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1949 in Tacoma, Washington to Arthur Quilliam and Ethel Verona (Alexander) Moore, the youngest of four children. He attended Mt. Rainier High School (Class of 1966) and graduated from Whitworth College with a bachelor’s degree in history in 1970.

He was a lifelong entrepreneur, starting his career in computer sales at Wang and then Hewlett-Packard, later opening a Catalina sailboat dealership in partnership with his older sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou (deceased) and Carl Rafello.

Outside of work, his happiest hours were spent in the air, flying small planes, or out on the water. He believed there was nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.

Bill is survived by his three children, Erin Moore and husband Jon Scholes, Carolyn Moore and Rebecca Moore, whom he shared with his former spouse Kathlyn Lucas. He leaves two grandchildren, Avery and Parker Scholes. He is also survived by two of his older siblings, Arthur Moore Jr. and Carolyn Gellerman.

A memorial gathering will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at the Bridgehaven Marina Pavilion, followed by a reception to celebrate his life at his home, 381 North Beach Dr., Port Ludlow, Washington (within the Bridgehaven Community, adjacent to the Marina Pavilion).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northwest Maritime Center of Port Townsend, Washington – www.nwmaritime.org/get-involved/donate/.
