Larry Smaaladen

Larry Smaaladen

January 3, 1951 – June 30, 2016

Larry Smaaladen was born Jan. 3, 1951 in Bremerton, Washington, to Arthur and Edna Smaaladen. He joined brother Aldeen, sister Glenna and brother Landis. Larry grew up in Poulsbo, graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1969. He and his wife, Kathy, and daughter, Lori, made their family home in Poulsbo as well.

Larry was always interested in cars and trucks and he spent a lot of his working life around transportation. From his first job working at Lars’ Chevron, continuing to NK Gravel and Asphalt, to spending 33 years at Vitro Corporation / BAE Systems.

Larry was always interested in sports, especially the Seattle Mariners and the University of Washington Huskies. In his youth he played basketball for the North Kitsap PeeWees and baseball for the North Kitsap Little League. He continued playing both sports through junior high and high school. He was very proud that his three grandchildren were North Kitsap Vikings, just like he was.

Larry and Kathy enjoyed traveling, whether it be for spring training in Arizona or to Hawaii, Mexico or many, many family vacations with the grandkids.

Larry received the news that he had cancer in June 2014. He refused to let this deter him from living. He continued life as usual, visiting with the neighbors, attending all of the grandkids school events and going on vacation with Kathy. In December 2015, the entire family went for two weeks to Mexico during Christmas, one of the best vacations in years.

On June 30, 2016 Larry was called home to our Lord. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; daughter and son-in-law Lori and Scott Crowell; and his three grandkids, Shane, Katelyn and Sean; as well as brother, Aldeen (Leota) Smaaladen; sister, Glenna (Ernie) Johnson; and brother, Landis (Pat) Smaaladen; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry’s service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 8 at the House of Awakened Culture, 7235 NE Parkway, Suquamish, Washington.

Memorial donations may be made to the NKHS Athletic Boosters/Baseball. Please see the Cook Family Funeral Home online and sign the guestbook.
