Florence Adele Whitaker passed away of natural causes on Feb. 10, 2017 in Southern California at 98-years-old. She had a wonderful last day surrounded by her family singing old childhood songs and sharing special last words.
Florrie was born in Seattle on Nov. 8, 1918 to Victor and Carolyn Montan (Erikson). She attended University of Washington as an education major. She was a high school home economics teacher when she met her husband John O. Whitaker. They moved to Southern California where they raised four children: John, Mary Ann, Robert and Nancy. She was active in many local charities in the San Pedro area where she lived with her family creating many wonderful memories. Her four kids all still reside in California and now have families of their own. Florrie is survived by her devoted children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Although Florrie and her husband John lived an entertaining life in Southern California attending University of Southern California football games and traveling the world, they were ultimately called back to the Pacific Northwest to take care of her parents and their beautiful property in Poulsbo, Washington. Florrie loved tending to the waterfront home and remained there until she was
96-years-old. She found great joy in hosting family weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and many summer bonfires. She was a longtime member of the Poulsbo Yacht Club and was involved in the local Scandia community. Her family will remember fondly the times they spent together lighting fire boats off the dock in Liberty Bay, building snowmen on the front lawn at a rare snowy Christmas, and watching fireworks during 4th of July celebrations. Florrie was a wonderful friend, loving mother and entertaining Grammie. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A private burial will take place at Mountain View cemetery on July 1st. A celebration of life will follow at her home for family and friends from 1- 4pm. 16872 N. Scandia Ln NW, Poulsbo 98370.
