Windstorm wreaks havoc on Kitsap

POULSBO — Winds wreaked havoc on Kitsap Nov. 13, knocking out power to traffic signals along Highway 305 in Poulsbo, knocking down and sparking a power line fire in front of Wilkes Elementary School on Bainbridge Island, downing trees, and setting two boats adrift from their anchorage in Poulsbo and Silverdale.

A high wind warning was in effect until 9 p.m., with gusts over 50 mph. Rain was expected overnight, with winds occasionally gusting over 40 mph, the weather service reported.

According to Kitsap County Public Works, fallen trees or branches knocked down power lines and forced the closure of three roads in South Kitsap, two roads in Central Kitsap, and five roads in North Kitsap. By 1:55 p.m., the following roads are still closed: Port Gamble Road between Tree Ridge and Falcon Ridge, Brockton Avenue NE between Middle and Newton, Hansville Road NE between NE Eaglepoint Lane and NE Bayberry Lane, and SW Minterbrook Road at Sidney Road SW.

According to Puget Sound Energy, at 2:30 p.m. 1,978 customers were without power on Bainbridge Island, 3,420 were without power in North Kitsap, 36 were without power in Silverdale, and 398 were without power in Bremerton and Port Orchard.
