Public hearing Oct. 24 on Port of Kingston fees for 2018

KINGSTON — The Port of Kingston Board of Commissioners worked Oct. 3 to draft a new rate schedule which would take effect on Jan. 1 as part of the 2018 budget. At the meeting, the group discussed increases to moorage and parking fees.

Under the proposed rate schedule, nightly moorage rates — which are based on the vessel length overall or minimum slip costs, whichever is greater — would increase by 10 cents per foot. Additionally, the minimum cost for slip seven (a 45-foot slip) and slips eight through 10 (50-foot slips) would be $49.50 per night, an increase of $4.50.

The minimum cost for guest slips 11 through 20, which are each 40 feet long, would be $38.50 per night, a increase of $3.50.

Guest slips 21 through 45, which are 30 feet long, each would cost a minimum of $27.50 per night, an increase of $7.50.

Nightly rates for linear guest dock slips 46 through 49 (which can accommodate vessels up to 84 feet long) would increase by 10 cents to $1.10 per foot.

Multi hull vessel moorage for boats longer than 18 feet would increase from $2 to $2.20 .

Under the proposed rate schedule, temporary tie-up rates would remain the same: for $5, vessels under 25 feet can tie up for up to four hours; vessels over 25 feet long pay $10.

For guest moorage, nightly electrical fees would now be included in moorage rates. For monthly moorage tenants, non-metered electric rates remain the same. An increase per kilowatt hour cost by Puget Sound Energy will be passed down to permanent moorage tenants in the form of an additional $.002 per kilowatt hour.

The covered kayak rack and small boat storage would increase by 75 cents, to $26.25 per month.

Annual truck and trailer parking permits would also see a $2.25 increase under the port’s new rate schedule, setting the price at $78.75. Also being introduced in 2018 will be an electronic reader board, where for $25 per week residents can post a message or bulletin.

While proposed rate changes are still subject to change between now and Jan. 1, port officials said they did not expect there to be any changes to the proposed rate schedule after a public hearing on Oct. 24. The hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Village Green Community Center in Kingston.
