Port Orchard Packers fan dies following cherished visit

Fervid Green Bay Packers fan Josh McCall of Port Orchard has died, but not before getting his wish to attend a Packers-Seahawks game at Lambeau Field.

McCall finally succumbed Jan. 5 after a long battle with cerebral palsy. After making the decision not to seek continuing treatment for his condition, McCall and his family reached out for help so he could get to Wisconsin to see the Packers in action in the limited time he had left.

Through the help of Packers fans and area well-wishers, the 30-year-old McCall achieved his goal after his family raised $10,000 through a GoFundMe campaign. He attended the NFL game, with a caregiver at his side, on Dec. 11. The Pack upended the Seahawks that day 38-10.

He also was given the VIP treatment by the Seahawks, who made him a special guest at a CenturyLink game.

McCall’s mother, Stacey McCall, kept the community informed about her son’s condition on Facebook. After getting time to spend Christmas with family members, McCall’s body weakened. And on Jan. 5, he passed away.

Stacey McCall left a final message that day: “Our beloved Packer Backer Josh McCall went home to the Lord today at 4:43 p.m. Heaven is rejoicing!”

Funeral arrangements are pending.
