As 2011 comes to an end, I want to thank Jerrianne Helberg, former president of Kingston Friends of the Library, for her many years of enthusiastic service. She was a joy to work with during my first year as branch manager of the Kingston Library.

Please join us and your friends this December for fun events at the library.

– The new Kingston Writers Group invites you to join in a friendly supportive atmosphere to encourage writing fiction, nonfiction or poetry. Meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, 6:30 p.m. in the Kingston Community Center. Beginners are welcome.

– Kingston Book Group will discuss “The Space Between Us” by Thrity Umrigar on Dec. 7, 10:30 a.m. in the Indianola Room.

– Seattle Opera Preview Lecture: “Attila” by Giuseppe Verdi. Dec. 17, 2 p.m. in the Kingston Room. Opera aficionado Norm Hollingshead tells the story of the King of the Huns and his conquering hordes clashing with cunning women warriors and a scheming Roman general.  Funded by a donation from an anonymous couple in Kingston.

– The Kingston Classics Book Group will meet on Dec. 19, 6:30 p.m. in the Indianola Room to discuss “Vanity Fair” by William Thackeray.

– Bead it for the Holidays. Dec. 21, 3-4 p.m. Add color to your winter with beads.  Learn the basics of beading and make a bracelet to take home for yourself or as a gift. Call (360) 297-3330 to register. Especially for teens and tweens.

– Season for Singing with Nancy Stewart. Dec. 23, 3-4 p.m. Share the holiday traditions of children around the world, and learn where some of our favorite customs have come from in this musical celebration of the season. Especially for young children and families.

– Family Game Day.  Dec. 28, 1-3 p.m. Whether you want to go high-tech with Wii or low-tech with board games and cards, we’ve got games for the whole family — snacks too. Fun for all ages.

Kingston Library hours: Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, 1-8 p.m.; Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, 1-5 p.m.; Friday, 1-6 p.m.; Saturday, 1-5 p.m. 

LITTLE BOSTON LIBRARY EVENTS
– Little Boston Book Group meets the first Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m. to noon. They will discuss “The Zookeeper’s Wife” by Diane Ackerman on Dec. 7.

– Adult Crafternoon welcomes everyone on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Bring your handwork projects and see our newest craft books.
