MLK Day March for Humanity Jan. 14 in Bremerton

The event to commemorate 50th-year anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination

BREMERTON — Two community events in Kitsap County have been organized for Jan. 13 and 14 to honor the life and principles of Martin Luther King Jr.

Kitsap County residents are invited to walk for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Dream” on Jan. 14 at Opal Robertson Teen Center, at Park Avenue and Dr. ML King Way in Bremerton.

Those wishing to take part are asked to gather at the site at 1:30 p.m. All ages are welcome to join the march, which will take place within the immediate neighborhood. The teen center’s facilities will be available for the participants’ use during the walk, until 3:30 p.m.

The community event is made possible through the collaboration of Living Arts Cultural Heritage Project, New Life Community Development Agency, Living Life Leadership, Emmanuel Apostolic Church and Nipponzan Myohoji Bainbridge Island Temple.

On Jan. 13, Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action in Poulsbo will stage a vigil at the main gate of the Trident Submarine Base at Bangor at 11 a.m.

Participants will gather at 10:30 a.m. at the organization’s headquarters at 16159 Clear Creek Road NW and will walk to the base for a vigil that will include songs, signs, banners and quotes from Dr. King. Online: www.gz center.org.
