Forgery charges has been filed against a Port Orchard woman in Kitsap Count District Court this week.

Freda Deann Smith, 35, faces two counts of forgery, along with use of drug paraphernalia on April 6.

She was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and booked into the Kitsap County Jail on April 4. Bail was set at $5,000.

The forgery charges stem from incidents on June 13 and July 31.

According to charging papers, a male victim reported his mail was missing at the end of June, including a $900 cashiers check from his renter. Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies discovered the check was cashed at Fred Meyer in Port Orchard and a security camera captured the suspect and the vehicles she left the store in. An image showed a partial tattoo on Smith’s chest.

In July, the suspect apparently purchased a used car from the owner and gave him six Travelers Express money orders each for $500. The suspect presented a driver’s license under another identity. Deputies went to the address on the driver’s license and did not find the suspect. A female resident at the Manchester address told deputies her driver’s license had been stolen from her wallet by the suspect, court documents stated.

The woman told deputies she didn’t know the suspect’s last name, but went to an address where she was apparently residing. Deputies found a Chevy Tahoe that was spray painted with a damaged ignition and all tires were flat. They discovered the vehicle was registered to the suspect and that she had a warrant for third-degree driving with license suspended or revoked. The suspect was identified from a photograph by the used car owner.

Other charges filed against local residents in district court were:
