Body recovered from beneath Illahee Bridge

BROWNSVILLE — At 11:40 a.m. Nov. 8, a 9-1-1 caller reported the body of a hanged man under the middle of the bridge at the intersection of Illahee Road and Brownsville Highway, near Brownsville Marina. Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue units were in the area and responded immediately, sheriff’s deputies arrived at 12:15 p.m., and the bridge was closed for about an hour while the body was retrieved, according to Kitsap County Sheriff Deputy Scott Wilson.

After the coroner pronounced the death, CKF&R marine crew members retrieved the body.

The body was transported to the County Morgue. According to Deputy Wilson, this is a death investigation and the sheriff’s office is waiting to hear from the coroner as to the cause and manner of death.

The name of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin can be notified. More information will be reported as it becomes available.
