Jay S. Anderson | Passages

Jay S. Anderson passed away at home on hospice care in Ventura, California on Sept. 30, after 13 years with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

He was 78.

Jay was born in Seattle in 1939. When he was a boy, he swam across Green Lake and, later, Hood Canal. A graduate of Lincoln High School, earned his B.A. in architecture from the University of Washington and worked as an architect for several firms, eventually establishing his own firm, Anderson Associates.

In 1987, he retired to 40 acres in Pe Ell, growing hay and raising salmon. He enjoyed hiking, swimming and fishing in Hawaii with his buddies. He retired for a second time, moving to Ventura for the golfing weather. He hit two holes-in-one in Ventura and one in Ireland.

He is survived by his wife Marsha, son Max and granddaughter Amelia of Seattle; son Mark (Caroline) and grandsons Ethan and Tate of Honolulu; stepchildren Geoff and Melissa Rapp; sister, Judy Morgan of Poulsbo; nephew John Morgan; and niece Molly Apel and her family.

Memorial service is planned for February in Honolulu. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to Planned Parenthood or to Kagyu Thegchen Ling Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Center in Honolulu. His body was donated to UCLA Medical School.
