Bushel & Barrel rolls out its first kegs of cider | Kitsap Week

Imbibe: Bushel & Barrel Ciderhouse boasts itself as the first ciderhouse in Kitsap. It rolled out its first kegs in January and its cider has slowly filled local markets and pubs.

The Northwest is home to a bevy of breweries, wineries and distilleries, and Kitsap is no exception. Now, the county has one more source to imbibe.

Bushel & Barrel Ciderhouse boasts itself as the first ciderhouse in Kitsap. It rolled out its first kegs in January and its cider has slowly filled local markets and pubs.

“The ciderhouse is in its infancy, but we are really excited to join the brew community,” said Melissa Kittrell of Bushel & Barrel.

“I would describe the cider as an off-dry, farmhouse style that mimics the craft of an English-style cider but with a slight sweet and tart finish,” she said, noting that the cider is unfiltered and bears an abundance of Granny Smith apples.

Bushel & Barrel is only kegging and bottling for now, and can be found at Hare & Hounds, Poulsbo, the Port Gamble Café and the Wig Wam, Gorst. Also at the Marina Market, Poulsbo and the Port Gamble General Store.

Bushel & Barrel is a joint effort from Kittrell and Joel Atteberry, who brew on the outskirts of Poulsbo. The pair plan to increase their output over the coming year, after which, they intend to open a tasting room in Poulsbo.

Kittrell said that they hope to open the tasting room in 2016.

But Bushel & Barrel isn’t only about growing a business, rather, it’s also about growing a community.

“The motto of the ciderhouse is ‘Micro Cidery, MACRO Cause,’ Kittrell said. “We take the specialty ciders and donate a percentage of the net proceeds to support local charities and organizations to better the community.”

Bushel & Barrel will have a website soon, and currently has a Facebook page.
