Shame on you for stealing plants

Imagine coming to volunteer on a sunny Monday morning with your clubmates to weed in our newly created Norwegian garden at Kitsap Regional Library only to find it vandalized by the theft of two of our plants. That is what happened to a group of us from the Poulsbo Garden Club this last Monday morning.

Our initial reaction was hurt, then anger, and now disgust.

Gardens don’t just happen.

This small reclaimed piece of soil near the parking lot has been a labor of love and energy for the last couple years. We have cleared it of debris and blackberries, planned it and, with the support of the library, some community organizations, some businesses and the Poulsbo Garden Club, we are developing a little garden to celebrate Poulsbo’s Norwegian heritage.

A lot of research of authentic Norwegian gardens and their history went into finding just the right plants for this garden. A lot of club and personal money went into purchasing them. Now, we currently maintain Poulsbo’s newest public garden to ensure its successful growth.

So, shame on the person who stole them. Why did you do it and what did you do with them?
